15Feb2013 | Sunset at Sungai Batu & Batu Ferringhi

For the past few days a friend from Singapore with his friend came to Penang to celebrate Chinese new year and vacation, I suggested some good spots to them and brought them to 2 places for the landscape photograph. The first day we went to the southern part of Penang, that place has some rocks and is a good spot for sunset photography. Just an hour before the sunset had some rain, I was so afraid we need to cancel the whole trip, because they were here with tight sechdule. Luckily the rain was short, and we proceeded to the location before the sunset.End of a day
What a beautiful evening after the rain, even this is the place that I have visited a lot of times, but still surprised me with the each visit.
Sunset at T.Kumbar
We spent some wonderful evening there, but good time won't last long due to heavy rain again.
Sunset at T.Kumbar
We left the place when the sky it was dark and we all get wet by rain, but still happy with the photos that I've got it.

2 days later, we went to the north part of Penang, Batu Ferringhi is the famous tourist spot, all along the shore has many hotels and beaches, and the night market attracts lot of tourists after the sun has set. But normally we don't look for that kind of place for seascape photography, I rather choose a picnic spot more that the crowded place.
The Northern Beach
When arrived to the destination saw the tides a bit high, lucky that still managed to find a good spot for taking some photos. This place is need a bit of dangerous climb over some rocks.
Panorama of Batu Ferringhi Beac
Panorama view at the other side of a small fishing village under the beautiful evening sky.
I need some fresh air here!
The last photo is my favorite, stood there waited for half an hour just for the 2 lightning strikes at the same time, really risk my life to wait at that place, because at that time my friends has left the place and surrounding was so dark until can't really see anyone there. That ended my evening sunset photography.

Eat Around - Burps & Giggles in Ipoh, Malaysia

For many years ago I had created this travel blog, but never update it before. Since 2013 I have a new vision for myself to write some blogs instead of only share photos in Facebook, this is where the place I am going to start with it.

Each Chinese New Year, we will go back to Ipoh for the celebration with the eldest in my wife's family, as I had a planned to visit the near by waterfall on the 3rd day of Chinese New Year to take some nice photos, but I couldn't find the hidden fall, decided to drive to the near by gas station to check with the people there, and they advised me not go in alone due to the insecure and any time get rob in that place. After I took their advise and head back to the Ipoh town for anything that I can photographer around.

When I was passed by a place with a row of pre-war buildings, I was wondering why some people stand at the corridor, because those are the abandon building for many years. You will probably zoom past the signage without even noticing its presence. The shop was a tailor name U.S Peter and the sign is still hanging up there

So I made a second time passed by the shop front, I looked through a small window and saw the hidden heaven(restaurant) from a rustic and quirky place, that really surprised me a lot. Never in my life had seen  about this kinda of building can such a way converted it into a restaurant, most of the Penang heritage restaurant were have some proper renovation and upgrades.
IMG_0181
During the Chinese New Year  most of the parking space has occupied, so I parked my car quite a bit far from here. I was so excited when I've found such a place in Ipoh, no matter from the outside or inside of these premises has lots of junks, so called a new life for those rustic junks and the owner display them in a way of contemporary style and this shows that their creativity is not only in food, but the interior decoration too.
IMG_0176
A simple signboard shows us about the owner never wasted anything, and make it into alive from the junkyard, no expensive materials, no sparkling crystal, no exclusive table wares, and etc. IMG_0175 IMG_0169
My first impression of this place is unspeakable, the high roof with the cheap transparent roof sheet was attracted me, and I was surprised that they completely removed the 1st floor. As my experience tell, many owners prefer a useful space rather than wasted a space just like that, but they are totally made it the other way back. IMG_0172
They had added some decoration elements inside the premise, that is the real tree and hand painted wall, some more the wall in kind of untouched from original, and I like the most is the original timber beam across the hall. The overall cozy atmosphere is a perfect place for us to chat with friends with some wine, don't worry about the background music, not heavy metal or rap songs, but just the soft musics and love songs playing.

When crossed to the second building, they have some light foods and drinks serve such like burgers, pastries, sandwiches, and cakes too, mostly are Halal food. The open kitchen is over there for all kind of the preparation, they do serve coffee, tea and fruit juice too.

One thing I must share to you (if you are a Malaysian), normally we will ask for the menu, but they don't have any for you, all the foods, drinks and prices are written on the black board. This reminds me when I was had my lunch in certain places in Australia, this is the eco friendly method, rahter print any fancy menu. IMG_0184
This is me, I had my wonderful high tea there and spent some romantic moments with my wife when our daughters wasn't followed us. This is really a good place to hang out with your love one or friends too, I highly recommended to pay a visit if you are going to Ipoh.
IMG_0174 IMG_0171
Choose you favorite corners to sit and relax over there, many more to explore by yourself that I am not going to mention in here. They have expanded to 3 unit of shop-lots for now, and I believe in future has more to go if the business is really good. After enjoyed my meal, as I can rate it as 5/5 points for a good place for food and drink, and also a reasonable price too for such an environment.

IMG_0170
Normally the back lane of the building is the most dirty part and unshown to people, but they had revert the ugly part with some tables and chairs for lovers like the al fresco-style, this is the place that most impressed me when I stepped in here. This is not the end part of the premise, but more to discover. IMG_0179 IMG_0180 IMG_0188
A building after another building with lots of surprised, can't imagine how they get the ideas from, the almost collapse small house converted it to an art gallery, really must see to believe it.
IMG_0178 IMG_0186
As you can see those old tree roots hanging from the roof, in actual its penetrate through the wall and roof, This house really untouched like the original, the wall tells us the age. You can bring your food and drinks to here to enjoy it, if you like the natural air and lights.

Walked around the place has more to see and explore by yourself, because I want you to go once and enjoy everything you can find from there.
IMG_0187
The left hand side is their open space library, next to it is the washroom, and for time being the building above still unopened to public, I'll wait to see what is the next surprise. Along this path is back to another side of the inner road, but I found that this is not the end of the story yet. Because........................
IMG_0183
on the other side is the famous old town coffee shop with lots of hawkers for your breakfast and lunch, either you finished your lunch then proceed to Burps and Giggles, or had your most lovely breakfast before your hawkers food for your lunch, or totally looking for some light bites at BnG.

Now is the question how to get to there and their operation hours. They are open daily from 8:00am to 8:00pm, will close on Tuesday. IMG_0191
Use your GPS device or smart phone guild you to the exact location,Coordinates is 4.596488,101.07733. Or look for the road name of Jalan Sultan Yusof (main entrance), Jalan Bandar Timah (from the Kong Heng coffee shop), Jalan Market is the side road where connect both main road and inner road.

Last but not least, pay a visit if you have the time. If you are rush for your food, then I will suggest the hawkers at the Kong Heng coffee shop, else Burps and Giggles is the best hang out place for you.

3May2001 - Colmar Tropicale at Bukit Tinggi (A French-themed Village)

It was our first far distance vacation with my girl friend(she is my wife now), this was our 2 days 1 night stay dated on 3rd&4th May 2001 . The place is pretty nice build and totally different feels like we aren't staying in the tropical country. Even it is a small place, but is absolutely a place for us to free our mind and away from a busy city.

Not many photos taken in there, but will go back to stay there for another time soon. During that year, the second phase still under construction, I think now looks greater with an English castle & more interest spot to go.

"Colmar Tropicale is the unique French-themed attraction. It stands 2,600 feet above sea level on 80 acres of natural forestland. The first of its kind in Malaysia, it is modeled after the 16th Century Colmar Village in Alsace, France and has retained the authenticity and European feel of its counterpart. Submerge yourself in the French countryside ambience at Colmar Tropicale as its beautiful architecture and furnishings bring you back to times of yore.
The lifestyle at Colmar Tropicale is highlighted by many attractions whether you arrive singly or with a family. Kick back with marvel at the lively street entertainment and exciting stage performances from local and foreign artistes.
The true attraction of Colmar Tropicale is apparent. The spirit of hospitality and welcome is epitomized by warm and helpful person."

View from the the castle drawbridge at the entrance.

A minute walk entering to the archway then look through the old buildings.

People are spending their time along the street.

Visited to the near by Japanese Garden.

Koi fishes swims around in their harmony pond .

A street performer was playing along the street.

Outside view of the French-themed resort.

The belly dancer invited people to join them.

This kid was so happy in front of the fountain.

We shoot photo of the performers after their show.

We were stayed in 3rd level and the rooms actually on top level.

Their future plan is building a Rome-themed casino.

I am still deeply remember the second morning had slightly rain, the floor a bit wet and sky still without bright sun, really felt like staying in Europe.

View from the clock tower top floor and the wishing well can be see it from here too.

Every morning the resort's staff keeping the place clean.

Before leaving the place, a small rabbit farm near by is worth visiting if you have any kids together.
